SATSANG ENLIGHTENMENT AND CHOICE

After reading your editorial titled "Satsang at Vince's", (in issue 47 ) this response arose.

The argument of whether there is choice or no choice  is not new, it isn't even spiritual, or new age, it is just boring old philosophy, going back hundreds of years, more traditionally stated as "is there free will or no free will?"

Since this subject has been debated by some of the most acute minds in history I don't propose to argue for or against here.

What very few ask or investigate is," what is choice?" or " who is it that makes the  choice?" This can only be investigated in the moment now.

 For example, Put in front of you a red and green apple. now you are going to  investigate choosing  which apple you wish to eat. Look inside and see if you can find the mechanism, the exact instant that you pick up the apple. What is happening? what do you find? Keep refining until you reach the exact instant of picking up the apple. Is there a chooser or not?  Who makes the choice? If "I "do arises then check who this "I" is who is choosing. Is what you find eternally satisfying?

This can be a far more rewarding investigation than just arguing about choice. I suspect very few ask this question because most are addicted to the excitement and ego boosting the argument can provide.
